Jaden Baker products

Jaden Baker shirtWhen I wrote the book I never imagined creating products based upon it. Jaden just didn’t seem like that kind of book to me. But once it was read by other people who are not me, it was suggested that I create merchandise for it. T-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, etc. So I thought, “Why not?”

Doesn’t this make you a sell out?

I don’t think so. I published the book so I could sell it. If I wasn’t interested in making money off the book, I could’ve just posted it online for free. But I’m a capitalist, and want to make a profit off of my idea. And if people like the book and want to share it with others, creating merchandise is just another way to spread the word, with the added benefit of putting a little more cash in my pocket, getting me that much closer to being a self-sustaining author.

Aren’t you worried this will “commercialize” your book?

Worried? No. I want to make a living as an author, which means I have to sell my book to people, which means I have to make it commercial. Some people don’t like stories that are too “commercialized,” preferring things to be more “secret” I suppose. But that’s not me. I want Jaden out in the world to as many people as possible.
