Novel Consultants Needed

shadowThere are questions Google cannot answer, and it’s out of the question to randomly email people with the questions I need answers to. I need to connect with the right people and chat. It’s my intention to keep my in-progress projects and subject matter in the dark, as story, plot and characters can change in the course of a novel’s writing. I believe, though, that I have the general idea solidified, and I’d like to see how this story pans out. To go about it without feeling like a sham, I need experts for both their professional and background information. I have specific and general questions about atmosphere, feelings, and intangibles. Like with my first novel, I will credit my consultants in the acknowledgment section.

Who I need:

  1. An FBI Special Agent. I know the FBI offers consulting services to writers and Hollywood, as the FBI is a common entity in books. Because of the demand, I doubt they’ll respond to my summons.  FBI Special Agents are busy people. I need to reach out through a mutual contact so they aren’t worried about my questions and my motives. I’m happy to email directly, to work within their schedules, I just need their help. Do you know of a retired or active FBI Special Agent who might help out? If not an FBI Special Agent, anyone who’s worked with or in the FBI?
  2. California Correctional Officer, ideally one who works at the Sacramento City Jail. I cannot call or email the corrections department and ask my questions without raising eyebrows, and I doubt they’d help me out. Like #1, I need a mutual contact person so they know I’m not trying anything sly.
  3. Drug Rehabilitation Worker/Counselor, specifically someone who’s worked with cocaine, heroine or meth addicts. I’ve read a few books about addiction, but I still have questions and would like to get more personal answers.
  4. A former fraternity brother. I wasn’t a sorority sister in school, so I’d like to learn more about the real atmosphere of college greek life, not necessarily what’s portrayed in movies. Unless what’s portrayed is accurate. You’ll have to tell me.

And that’s all for now! Please contact me if you can help out.

You should post something on reddit.com in the Ask Reddit section. I’m positive you’d have people volunteer.

I know the Coordinator of Greek Life at Cal Poly. I emailed him the information about this because I feel like he’d be interested. He’s super involved in what Greek Life stands for and which stereotypes are true and what traditions and policies look like in the Greek system 🙂 I’ll let you know how that goes!

Oh! And I also know a social worker who’s done some stuff with drug stuff before… I’ll send her an email too. I’m not sure how much experience she has with it, but maybe she can offer some help 🙂

I’d love to help. Sadly, I have no connections in these areas. Let me know when you need to know something about accounting or the cattle business. 🙂
